Duke MyChart Pixel Settlement Payments: Why Checks Arrived October 2026

Checks arrived in October 2026 because that was the payout window for the Duke MyChart pixel settlement. The settlement administrator said payments for valid, on-time claims were expected in late October 2026, after final court approval in August. The case is Williams v.

Duke University Health System, No. 1:22-cv-00727. It alleged that Meta Pixel code on the Duke MyChart patient portal and the MyDuke Health mobile app sent patient information to Meta. Duke denied wrongdoing, fault, and liability, according to HIPAA Journal reporting on the $3.7 million agreement.

What the settlement covered

Duke University Health System agreed to pay $3,743,600 to resolve the claims. The dispute centered on web tracking technology said to have operated when patients used Duke MyChart or MyDuke Health.

That technology is often called a pixel. It is a small piece of website code that can report page activity to an outside advertising platform. Plaintiffs alleged this setup shared health-portal use with Meta.

Who could receive a check

The class covered U.S. individuals who logged into Duke MyChart or the MyDuke Health app at least once from February 18, 2019 through June 17, 2022.

Logging in once during that period was enough for class membership. Membership alone did not create a payment. Only people who filed a valid Claim Form by August 16, 2026 may receive payment, and that deadline has now passed.

  • Logged into Duke MyChart or MyDuke Health during the covered dates
  • Filed a valid claim by August 16, 2026
  • Received approval of that claim by the administrator

Why October was the payment month

The court granted preliminary approval on March 19, 2026. It then held the final approval hearing on August 27, 2026 and granted final approval and entered judgment, as shown in the final approval order.

Payments could not go out before that final step. After judgment, the administrator processed approved claims and prepared distribution. That schedule points to late October as the issue date, matching the late-October payment timing described in the DUHSSettlement FAQ.

How much recipients get and what to do

Payments are pro rata cash shares of the Net Settlement Fund. The fund is what remains after administration costs, court-approved attorney fees and expenses, and a service award. The per-person amount was not set in advance. It depended on the number of approved claims, so payments may be small across a large class.

The plan reserved about $1,235,388 in attorney fees plus up to $30,000 in expenses and a $7,500 award for the class representative. Recipients could be paid by check or electronically. A mailed check must be cashed within 90 days, or it expires, according to the settlement distribution terms. Any leftover money goes to a court-approved cy pres recipient.
