The Amazon Prime Refund Settlement is the $2.5 billion resolution of the Federal Trade Commission's case over Prime sign-ups and cancellations. The Federal Trade Commission says $1.5 billion is for consumer refunds and $1 billion is a civil penalty, without Amazon admitting wrongdoing, according to the September 2025 settlement announcement. Expanded rules later raised the maximum total refund from $51 to $200.

Who qualifies for a refund?
The case covers U.S. Prime members who enrolled through a challenged enrollment flow between June 23, 2019 and June 23, 2025. It also covers members who tried but could not cancel online during that period, according to the Federal Trade Commission in its Amazon refunds guide.
You must meet all three requirements, including enrollment or cancellation history and benefit-use limits. Under the revised order, members can qualify if they used up to 20 Prime benefits in a year. Heavier Prime users do not qualify.
Do you need to file a claim?
You do not need to file a claim, submit paperwork, or sign up for payment. The Federal Trade Commission says refunds are automatic for consumers who meet the eligibility rules, as explained in its September 2025 consumer alert.
Amazon administers and sends the payments, not the Federal Trade Commission. That means Amazon selects eligible accounts and issues the money directly.
How do you check your claim status?
Use only the court-approved administrator contacts for status questions. The Federal Trade Commission directs consumers to SubscriptionMembershipSettlement.com, [email protected], and 1-888-999-8094, as explained in its January 2026 consumer alert.
Do not contact the Federal Trade Commission for payment status. It does not issue the refunds or track individual accounts.

When and how will you be paid?
Amazon issues refunds by PayPal, Venmo, or paper check. Payments started Nov.
12, 2025 and continue through April 2027. The Federal Trade Commission reports Amazon had already issued more than $845 million by September 2026. Additional automatic rounds cover the newly eligible group that used 11 to 20 benefits in a year.
How do you avoid a refund scam?
Watch your mail, PayPal, and Venmo accounts through April 2027. Cash any paper check promptly so it does not expire.
The Federal Trade Commission says it never calls about refunds. Anyone who demands payment, asks for account information, or charges a fee for your refund is a scammer.
