Valsartan Cancer Settlement: How Much Can Claimants Get?

Valsartan, a generic blood-pressure medicine, has an approved economic-loss deal paying up to $40 for each 30-day supply, up to $120 per person. Cancer injury claims have no approved global settlement, with plaintiff firms estimating a future average of $150,000 to $200,000 if cases settle. The issue traces to 2018 recalls after certain generic lots contained NDMA and NDEA impurities.

The FDA reports these chemicals as probable human carcinogens and lists affected lots on FDA's ARB recalls page. Federal injury and economic-loss cases are grouped as MDL No. 2875 in New Jersey.

How much does the Hetero consumer deal pay?

According to the official Hetero Valsartan Consumer Claim Form Instructions v2025.1.EL, eligible consumers receive no more than $40 for each 30-day supply and no more than $120 total per consumer. The instructions also cap all consumer payments at 40% of the net settlement fund.

Details appear in the official consumer claim-form instructions. For example, two qualifying 30-day fills equal $80, while four or more fills hit the $120 per-person ceiling. That ceiling applies even if you bought more qualifying medicine.

Who qualifies for that payment?

The settlement administrator limits the Hetero consumer class to buyers of valsartan finished doses made with Hetero Process III API sold between May 1, 2018 and July 31, 2018. Larger out-of-pocket claims require documentation.

The administrator explains these limits in its settlement FAQs. Check pharmacy receipts and bottle labels for valsartan fills in that May-to-July window. Keep proof of what you paid if you seek more than the flat per-supply amount.

What about cancer or personal-injury payouts?

There is no approved global personal-injury or cancer verdict or settlement in the federal valsartan litigation. King Law reports that bellwether cases are moving toward trial expected in fall 2027.

Its September 2026 update provides its case-progress summary. As an estimate only, King Law projects future cancer settlements could average $150,000 to $200,000 within a $100,000 to $400,000 range. It places top-tier severe cancers at $400,000 or more, depending on usage, age and injury.

What should potential claimants do now?

Separate the small consumer refund from a possible injury case. One path uses purchase proof, the other needs medical and usage proof.

Use only the official administrator channel for a consumer claim. Do not delay injury advice while waiting for a consumer check.

  • Pull pharmacy records for May 1, 2018 to July 31, 2018 valsartan fills
  • Save receipts for any larger out-of-pocket costs
  • Keep diagnosis and treatment records apart from refund paperwork
  • Ask a personal-injury attorney whether your history fits the MDL bellwether criteria
