What Is the Case About?
The lawsuit alleges Google Assistant devices captured and transmitted audio recordings without consent through “False Accepts” (incorrect hotword detection) and shared those recordings with third-party review vendors. Google LLC and Alphabet Inc. deny all of the allegations and are settling without admitting fault.
Who Qualifies?
Two classes cover the period May 18, 2016 to March 19, 2026. The Purchaser Class includes U.S. residents who bought Google-made devices (Google Home, Nest Hub, Pixel phones) for personal use. The Privacy Class includes Google Assistant users, or household members, whose communications were recorded by a False Accept or disclosed to a third-party review vendor.
How Much Can You Get?
The $68 million non-reversionary fund is distributed on a points basis — 4 points per Google device (capped at 3 devices) plus 1 point for the Privacy Class. The final dollar value per point is calculated after the claim deadline and claim processing.
