The NBA Top Shot settlement created a $7,050,000 fund with estimated pro rata payments of about $36 to $122 per valid claimant. The deadline to file a claim was December 16, 2025, and approved payments were sent March 19, 2026.

The case is Fan v. NBA Properties, Inc., over alleged sharing of NBA Top Shot viewing data with Meta through a tracking pixel. The Video Privacy Protection Act, the federal video-privacy law cited in the suit, limits disclosure of video-viewing records.

You needed each item below for the same time period. A missing item meant no payment. Only timely valid claims led to payment. Doing nothing produced no money. It also left the person bound by the settlement terms for the covered claims.

  • U.S. person status for the class period

How much did eligible claimants receive?

NBA Properties Inc. and Dapper Labs Inc. agreed to a $7,050,000 fund to resolve the claims. LegalClarity describes the structure in its terms and distribution summary.

Eligible claimants with timely valid claims split the available fund in equal shares. Class counsel estimated payments at about $36 to $122 per claimant depending on claim volume. The Epiq official settlement site gives that range in its payment estimate notice. More claims meant a smaller share, while fewer claims meant a larger share.

What were the filing and court deadlines?

Submitting a claim form by December 16, 2025 was the sole way to receive payment. The Epiq official settlement site states that deadline in its claim deadline notice. Requests for exclusion and objections were due November 17, 2025.

The court held the final approval hearing by Zoom on December 19, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. PT. It granted final approval that day. The Epiq official settlement site reports the approval and payout dates in its settlement update, with distribution to timely valid claimants on March 19, 2026.

What does the closed claims period mean now?

Defendants denied violating any law. The claims period is now closed, so late forms cannot produce payment.

People who did nothing receive no money and gave up the related claims covered by the settlement. The settlement also addresses future data sharing. It requires suspending the Meta pixel absent a VPPA change or compliance.
