Yes. Jeep owners have sued the maker over cracking windshields, and the federal case is still moving forward. No court has yet approved a class payout, so you cannot file for settlement money now.
A putative class action means a few owners sue on behalf of a larger group. The court must later decide if the group case can proceed. This dispute centers on frequent chips and cracks and limits in warranty help.

Which Jeeps are involved?
The case started with owners and lessees of 2016-present Wrangler and Gladiator vehicles. The filing alleges their windshields are prone to cracking, fracturing or chipping, according to the court complaint published by ALM filed federal complaint. CarComplaints.com reports the alleged triggers include tiny pebbles, defroster use and temperature changes.
One plaintiff alleged a crack after a gnat strike. Another alleged reduced driver visibility from the damage. The scope later grew. The February 2025 third amended complaint adds 2016-present Grand Cherokees and challenges the windshield warranty as unconscionable, according to CarComplaints.com case update on covered models.
Where does the maker lawsuit stand?
On Sept. 5, 2024, Judge Jamel K. Semper granted in part and denied in part FCA's bid to dismiss the second amended complaint. Core defect claims moved forward.
Other claims were dismissed without prejudice, which lets plaintiffs revise and refile them. On June 30, 2025, the same New Jersey federal court again granted in part and denied in part a later dismissal motion. The result keeps the Reinkraut case alive instead of ending it, according to the federal court order published through GovInfo June 2025 court order. That means no final win, loss or settlement yet. It also means the defect theory survived two rounds of defense attacks.
Is there a supplier case or stronger glass?
A separate proposed class action filed Oct. 16, 2026 sued supplier Fuyao Glass America in New Jersey federal court. Law360 reports it alleges supplied Wrangler and Gladiator windshields crack and chip without reason and create a safety hazard. The maker has also sold a tougher factory option since 2021.
Stellantis Media describes a Jeep Performance Parts windshield with Corning Gorilla Glass for select Wrangler and Gladiator trims. It uses phone-screen chemical-strengthening technology and carried a $95 U.S. MSRP. That option does not resolve the lawsuits. It shows an alternative part exists for some trims, not a free replacement program.
What can you do about a cracked windshield?
There is no certified class or claims deadline to watch. NHTSA lists no windshield-crack recall for these claims. Check your VIN through NHTSA's official recall tool and save repair proof for an individual warranty or lemon-law claim, according to NHTSA official VIN recall tool.
