How to Verify FTC Refund Programs Claims in 2026: court filings and settlement notices, Evidence, and Red Flags

Check any 2026 FTC refund claim against the FTC case list at ftc.gov/refunds and match the company name, payment details, and contact phone. An FTC refund program is a court-ordered or settlement-funded payment process run after an FTC case, not a private coupon or sweepstakes. Real programs name a specific company, eligibility period, and payment method. Fake offers pressure you to pay, share passwords, or file for a closed case.

Match the notice to the official case listing

Start with the company name on the letter, email, check, or ad. Find that same company on the FTC refund list, then compare the listed phone number and case details. According to the Federal Trade Commission in its Refund Programs FAQs, a mailed notice includes an explanation and case details.

If those details do not match the official listing, stop and treat the message as suspect. Save the envelope, email header, and payment stub before you click or reply. Use them to compare sender address, deadlines, and payment amounts with the official case page.

Do you need to file, accept, or do nothing?

Some 2026 payments require no action. The Federal Trade Commission said in its September 2026 Amazon Prime press release that expanded refunds starting Oct. 1, 2026 go automatically by PayPal, Venmo, or mailed check to eligible U.S. customers under the $2.5 billion settlement. Other programs require an acceptance or a claim by a firm date.

Techlicious, citing an FTC announcement, reports Cleo AI payments of more than $15.8 million by PayPal starting Oct. 27, 2026 to 2,124,796 customers who paid for eligible instant advances, after email notice Oct. 8-26 from [email protected] to accept within 30 days. Claim-based programs close on time. Federal Trade Commission releases and alerts state that NGL Pro users who paid between Jan. 2022 and July 2024 had to file at ftc.gov/NGL by April 6, 2026 and be at least 18, while Golden Sunrise buyers from July 2017 to July 2020 who received January 2025 forms could seek an additional payment at ftc.gov/GoldenSunrise by May 12, 2026.

What legitimate payment messages include

Legitimate notices state who qualifies, what period counts, and how money arrives. They do not ask you to pick a faster lane or confirm eligibility by wire. Payment timing and cashing rules are specific. The FTC Oct.

15, 2026 announcement, verified by WhatsIssue, states Walmart will mail more than $9.8 million in checks to 65,022 people who completed eligible Walmart money transfers between Jan. 2015 and Dec. 2024, with checks to cash within 90 days. Keep the deadline with the notice. A real email, letter, or check tells you whether to do nothing, click accept within 30 days, file by a stated date, or cash within 90 days.

WhichWarning signs mark fraud?

A demand for money or secret information means the offer is false. Scam messages ask for fees, bank passwords, Social Security numbers, wire transfers, or gift-card payments.

The Ginsburg Law Group summary of FTC guidance, in its October 2026 Cleo AI refunds summary, states the FTC never requires money or account information to release a refund. Threats, urgent payment demands, and promises of special access also signal fraud.

  • caller or sender demands a fee to release your refund
  • message asks for a bank password or Social Security number
  • sender wants wire, gift-card, or app payment to verify you
  • notice threatens arrest, loss of funds, or account closure
  • offer promises faster or larger payment for early action

Why are closed programs a common trap?

Closed programs stay closed even if ads keep circulating. Once the filing window ends, the administrator will not accept late forms or reopen the portal for new applicants.

The Federal Trade Commission states on its Fortnite Refunds page that the $245 million Fortnite and Epic Games redress stopped accepting new claims after July 9, 2025. Any 2026 invitation to file a new Fortnite claim is false, so report fakes at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
