How Much Can You Claim in a Rideshare Settlement?

You can claim only what your trips, earnings, driving dates, or documented injury support. Most driver payments are divided pro rata, so there is no fixed average to expect. A rideshare settlement is a fund that repays drivers, riders, or others after a company is accused of underpayment, deception, or unsafe practices. Your share depends on the fund size, the number of valid claims, and the period you qualify for.

Why is there no set payout?

Your payment reflects your own record, not a published average. The New York Attorney General states that individual payouts are pro rata on trips, earnings, and driving dates, as explained in the New York warning about filing.

That method rewards longer or higher-earning work periods. It also means two drivers in the same fund can receive very different checks.

What have driver wage funds paid?

New York recovered 328 million dollars from Uber and Lyft as back pay for over 100,000 current and former drivers, according to the New York back-pay announcement. The Massachusetts Attorney General secured 175 million dollars, with at least 140 million dollars designated as driver restitution.

California and three cities reached a 272.5 million dollar Lyft settlement covering April 2016 through December 2020. At least 237.075 million dollars was reserved to repay workers for minimum wage and benefits, according to the California Attorney General and city plaintiffs.

What did smaller refund checks look like?

The Federal Trade Commission said Uber would pay 20 million dollars to resolve charges over exaggerated earnings and vehicle-financing claims. The full fund was used for driver refunds nationwide.

The Federal Trade Commission later mailed 19,798,233 dollars in 88,799 checks to affected drivers, averaging 222.96 dollars per check, as reported in the FTC refund checks update. Washington drivers from 2013 through 2014 received 170 dollars each from a 2.2 million dollar state share, according to the Washington State Attorney General.

What limits injury claims?

Uber states that every U.S. trip carries at least 1 million dollars in commercial liability coverage while the driver is en route to pickup or transporting a rider, as shown on the Uber insurance coverage page.

That coverage caps many serious injury claims. Coverage is far lower while a driver waits for a request. Those limits are 50,000 dollars per person, 100,000 dollars per accident, and 25,000 dollars for property damage, according to Uber.

How should you file?

File only through the official settlement administrator, Rust Consulting. The New York Attorney General warned drivers against firms seeking a cut of wage-settlement payments.

  • Confirm your driving dates fall inside the covered period
  • Gather trip counts and earnings records for those dates
  • Submit only through the named official administrator
