Jeep Windshield Class Action Lawsuit: Are You Eligible to Sue?

No claim form exists yet, so you cannot file for payment now. You may fit the proposed lawsuits if you owned or leased a 2016 or newer Jeep Wrangler, Gladiator or Grand Cherokee with repeated windshield cracking, chipping or fracturing.

A class action is a lawsuit where a few owners sue for a larger group with the same alleged defect. Two proposed cases target Jeep windshields, one against FCA US LLC and one against glass supplier Fuyao Glass America. Neither class has been certified.

Which Jeeps Are Named?

Three owners filed Reinkraut et al. v. FCA US LLC, Case No. 2:23-cv-02792, on May 23, 2023 in New Jersey federal court.

The suit alleged 2016-present Wrangler and Gladiator windshields crack, fracture or chip too easily, as glassBYTEs described in its May 25, 2023 filing report. Later amendments added the Grand Cherokee and a proposed Gorilla Glass Subclass. That subclass would cover U.S. residents who owned or leased a Wrangler, Gladiator or Grand Cherokee with Gorilla Glass and experienced the defect, according to CarComplaints.com in its February 2025 case update.

What Do Owners Say Goes Wrong?

The FCA complaint alleges damage happens where normal glass would survive. Examples include cracks from defroster use and chips from small pebbles.

Plaintiff Steve Smith alleged his 2021 Wrangler cracked in 75-degree weather. He also alleged a gnat chipped his replacement windshield. A separate October 16 filing by eleven owners makes a similar claim against Fuyao, alleging its Wrangler and Gladiator windshields crack, fracture or chip without meaningful impact, according to CarPro in its October 2026 legal roundup.

Where Do the Lawsuits Stand?

Judge Jamel K. Semper kept the FCA case alive but narrowed it. He dismissed several state-law claims without prejudice and gave plaintiffs leave to amend because they had not identified FCA statements that rose to actionable misrepresentations or omissions.

Neither case has produced liability, certification or payment. The Fuyao complaint contains allegations only at the earliest stage. No settlement and no claim deadline apply to either case.

What Should You Keep and Do?

Owners report paying hundreds of dollars for repairs even with insurance because deductibles apply. FCA points to 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty coverage for defects, so warranty response matters to your records.

Keep repair invoices, warranty denials, photos of each crack or chip, and mileage and weather notes. Do not discard a cracked windshield before photographing it.

  • Match your vehicle to the named models and glass type
  • Save every windshield bill, claim denial and photo in one file
  • Ask the dealer to put warranty decisions in writing
  • Watch for certification or settlement notices before acting
