Check Your Eligibility
You must satisfy each of these conditions to remain eligible for compensation: The covered period ran from May 24, 2007, through December 22, 2022, inclusive. However, meeting that definition did not replace the separate requirement to file an approved claim on time.
- You used Facebook in the United States during the covered period.
- You submitted a properly completed claim by August 25, 2023.
- The settlement administrator approved that claim.
What the Settlement Resolved
The case was In re: Facebook, Inc. Consumer privacy User Profile Litigation.
It addressed allegations that Facebook gave third parties broad, unauthorized access to users' personal information between 2007 and 2022, according to a Ninth Circuit case filing. The settlement resolved those allegations without a finding that Meta broke the law. The federal court's final approval order states that the settlement is not evidence or an admission of wrongdoing.
What If You Never Filed?
The August 25, 2023 deadline has not reopened. Someone who had a qualifying Facebook account but never submitted a claim cannot apply now.
People who neither filed a claim nor opted out remained part of the settlement but received no payment. They also gave up the right to sue Meta separately over the claims resolved by this case.
Payment and Second Distribution Status
The settlement became final on May 22, 2025, after the appeals ended. The administrator reports that the initial payment distribution has been completed.
The court approved a second distribution on May 6, 2026. The official settlement update does not reopen eligibility or accept new applicants, so only people with previously approved claims should treat that distribution as potentially relevant.
