Papa John’s Illinois Biometric Privacy Class Action Settlement — Claim Deadline April 17, 2026

Papa John’s Illinois Biometric Privacy (BIPA) Settlement

Papa John’s International, Inc. and its franchisee operators have reached a class action settlement (Kyles v. Papa John’s International Inc., et al.) over allegations that they collected employees’ fingerprint biometric data via the FOCUS System’s finger scanner without proper written notice and consent, violating the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA). Affected employees may file a claim by April 17, 2026.

What Is This Case About?

The lawsuit alleges that franchisee-owned Papa John’s restaurants in Illinois used the FOCUS System’s finger scanner for employee time tracking (clocking in and out) without providing employees with proper written notice about the collection, storage, and destruction of their biometric data, and without obtaining their informed written consent, as required by BIPA.

Who Is Eligible?

You may be eligible if you worked at a franchisee-owned Papa John’s restaurant in Illinois at any time from December 3, 2015 to December 17, 2025 and used the FOCUS System’s finger scanner to clock in or out.

How Much Can You Receive?

Eligible class members may receive a cash payment. BIPA provides for statutory damages of $1,000 per negligent violation and $5,000 per intentional or reckless violation. The actual per-claimant payment depends on the settlement terms and total valid claims filed.
