HopSkipDrive, a rideshare service for children, has reached a $1.985 million class action settlement following a data breach between May 31 and June 10, 2023 that compromised the personal information of approximately 155,394 individuals, including drivers and caregivers. Affected individuals may file a claim by April 14, 2026.
What Happened?
HopSkipDrive experienced a data breach in mid-2023 that exposed sensitive personal information, including Social Security numbers and other sensitive personal and medical data of drivers, caregivers, and other individuals associated with the platform. Breach notification letters were sent in approximately November 2023. The lawsuit alleges HopSkipDrive failed to implement adequate cybersecurity measures to protect this data.
Who Is Eligible?
You may be eligible if your personal information was compromised in the HopSkipDrive data breach. This primarily affects drivers and caregivers who were part of the HopSkipDrive platform. Affected individuals should have received a breach notification letter.
What Benefits Are Available?
Eligible class members may receive:
- Up to $5,000 for documented out-of-pocket losses (with receipts/invoices)
- Up to $125 for lost time (5 hours at $25/hour)
- A flat $100 cash payment option
- California residents may receive up to an additional $250 statutory payment
- Two years of credit monitoring and identity theft protection
