GameSpot California Data Privacy (CIPA) Settlement
Fandom, Inc., the owner of GameSpot, has reached a $1.2 million class action settlement (Shah v. Fandom, Inc.) over allegations that it secretly installed third-party trackers on GameSpot.com that collected visitors’ IP addresses and browser data without consent, violating California’s Invasion of Privacy Act (CIPA). Affected individuals may file a claim by April 16, 2026.
What Is This Case About?
The lawsuit alleges that Fandom installed three third-party tracking tools — GumGum, Audiencerate, and TripleLift — on GameSpot.com that collected California visitors’ IP addresses and browsing data without their knowledge or consent. Under CIPA Section 638.51(a), it is unlawful to install or use a pen register or trap-and-trace device without proper authorization.
Who Is Eligible?
You may be eligible if you are a California resident who accessed www.gamespot.com between January 5, 2023 and December 16, 2025.
How Much Can You Receive?
Eligible class members will receive a pro-rata share of the $1.2 million net settlement fund, capped at $5,000 per claimant. Payments are available via check, PayPal, or Venmo.
