Natera $8.25 Million Prenatal Testing Settlement — Claim Up to 10% of Out-of-Pocket Costs by March 23

Natera, Inc. agreed to an $8.25 million settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit alleging that the genetic testing company misled patients about the cost of its noninvasive prenatal testing (NIPT) products — including Panorama — causing many to pay thousands of dollars out of pocket they did not expect to owe. If you paid out-of-pocket costs for a Natera prenatal screening test, the deadline to file a claim is March 23, 2026.

What Did Natera Do?

Natera is one of the largest providers of noninvasive prenatal testing in the United States. Its flagship Panorama test screens for chromosomal conditions including Down syndrome and other genetic abnormalities through a simple blood draw from the pregnant person.

The lawsuit alleged that Natera misrepresented the cost of its tests to patients and healthcare providers. Specifically, plaintiffs alleged that Natera told patients their test would be covered by insurance or would cost little to nothing out of pocket — then sent surprise bills for hundreds or thousands of dollars after the test was performed. Some patients received bills for $1,000, $2,000, or more even after being told the test was covered.

The complaint alleged that Natera knew its tests were frequently not covered at the prices it intended to bill, but continued to represent to patients that costs would be minimal, in order to increase test volume and revenue.

Who Is Eligible?

  • You paid out-of-pocket costs for a Natera noninvasive prenatal screening test (including Panorama and other Natera NIPT products)
  • You are a U.S. resident

You do not need to have been deceived about the cost specifically — if you paid out of pocket for a Natera prenatal test, you may qualify.

How Much Can You Get?

  • Without proof of payment: up to $30 per claimant
  • With proof of out-of-pocket costs under $300: up to the amount paid
  • With proof of out-of-pocket costs over $300: up to 10% of documented costs

Given that many Natera bills were in the hundreds to thousands of dollars, the 10% reimbursement option could be meaningful for those who kept their documentation. If you paid $2,000 out of pocket, for example, you could claim up to $200.

What Documentation Do You Need?

  • No proof needed for the base $30 payment
  • For higher reimbursement: Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from your insurer, Natera invoices or bills, receipts or bank statements showing payment to Natera
