What Is the Case About?
Under Western Union’s 2017 agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice, the company forfeited $586 million after admitting to two felony counts of willfully failing to maintain an effective anti-money-laundering program and aiding and abetting wire fraud. Phase 3 of the remission program reimburses victims of fraud-induced Western Union transfers.
Who Qualifies?
Victims who sent Western Union transfers between January 1, 2004 and March 9, 2020, were defrauded, did not receive compensation in Phases 1 or 2, and can provide the 10-digit MTCN. Non-U.S. citizens are eligible.
How Much Can You Get?
Full loss recovery of 100% of the verified transfer amount, not pro rata. This covers the principal amount of each fraud transfer but excludes Western Union fees and incidental expenses.
